The
Morganfield Chamber first came into existence by
becoming a corporation July 29, 1954. There were
12 board members listed in the records: C.T.
McCullough, A.B. Davis, Will Tom Wathen, Compton
Omer, W.E. Horsefield, William Anderson, Robert
R. Hale, Marion Greenwell, Tyler Munford,
Monsignor John M. Higgins, Sidney Hulette, and
Anne Anderson.
There
was also a Junior Morganfield Chamber of
Commerce incorporated on May 21, 1958, and was
later changed in 1975 to the Morganfield
Jaycees.
For a
while the Chamber seemed to have fallen off, but
gradually was picked back up and dusted off by a
few more caring people who didn’t want to see
Morganfield come to a stand still. Now the
chamber is growing and progressing in a positive
state with membership picking up and new
businesses being established within the city.
The
overall objective of the Morganfield Chamber of
Commerce is to advance the general welfare and
prosperity of the Morganfield area, assure
effective government at all levels and maintain
a high climate for a sound, expanding economy.
It is the conscience and the will of the
community…the conscience to seek out the
community faults and the collective will of its
members to overcome them.
